Mars in Sagittarius: Moral Outrage

Over The last weekend I have felt Mars in Sagittarius’ bluntness, judgement and moral outrage. I have a Moon-Mercury conjunction in Pisces and Mars has been directly squaring it. I don’t over-analyze minor transits or talk about daily astrology. However, Mars in Sagittarius hit me squarely in the face. Mars square both Moon and Mercury suggests emotional anger, arguments and disagreements. Mars gives extra fighting energy to Sagittarius and can even create moral outrage in areas concerning education, politics or religion. Since the beginning of November, Mars entered Sagittarius and its dispositor, Jupiter is in conjunction with Uranus, a rebellious and progressive aspect. The London riots kicked off and they were in opposition to the spending cuts to further education and increased tuition fees. It was the largest student protest in a decade.

I won’t go into the details of what happened to me personally, but I slammed the phone down, bumped into an opinionated woman who felt she was self- righteous enough to get on her high horse and decided to give me some child-raising tips. I also got angry over the greed of a family member. Although in retrospect, I may have over-reacted to the latter. I am not giving Mars in Sagittarius a hard time and it was only due to its square to my natal conjunction that issues flared up. Natally, Mars in Sagittarius is enthusiastic about their beliefs and motivated by ideals and fiery principles. Looking at the experience positively, I learned some more astrology and should learn how to be better prepared for unjustified attacks. At the weekend, I was fired up over these issues and so experienced the brunt or brute and inconsiderate force of Mars in Sagittarius. I am sure other people with Mutable planets (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) may have experienced something similar or perhaps viewed the encounter as a learning pursuit.

Songs of the Zodiac: Sagittarius

Sagittarius signifies the endless journey of understanding, and its mutable nature is restless and forever on the move. Astrologers refer to our final fire sign as the eternal traveller, optimist and knowledge seeker. The spirit of Sagittarius is adventurous and is always on the look-out for bigger and better possibilities. Impatient with time and limitations their expansive nature needs the stable door left open. Sagittarius is traditionally associated with luck, but the fortuitous nature of this sign is really connected to their capacity to spot opportunities using extroverted intuition, and one that relies on ‘hunches‘. Exploration, wandering and wide-ranging interests, Sagittarius exudes faith and optimism, but are sometimes careless and undisciplined in approach. Honest, open and sincere, they are  drawn to the bigger picture, and take us into the realm of higher learning, looking for breadth of experience. Sagittarius is fun-loving and always wants what is pleasurable evident from its lower, animal nature - more food, wine and sex, and tries to avoid heavily committed relationships. The intellectual Sagittarius will seek a mentally stimulating and physically energetic companion, one that understands their free-spirit. This person is concerned with philosophy, ideas and concepts built on religion, law and higher education.

Venus in Sagittarius

A person with Venus in Sagittarius seeks a relationship which expands consciousness and feel happiest with a fun loving partner to share adventure with. Venus here likes to be where it’s popular, new and exciting and have a good-time; therefore a partner needs to have that same fun-loving sense of humour. When Venus is in the fire signs it tends to exaggerate and dramatize feelings. Venus in Sagittarius is optimistic, filled with romantic longings, and they tend to move restlessly from one person to another in search of the ideal. If the overall chart describes a committed and emotionally serious individual, they will seek a partner that shares their joy of learning and spiritual expansion, and will be attracted to exotic and international relationships.

Above all else, personal freedom is important and domestic situations may feel heavy and limiting. A sense of harmony is found in relationships that allow emotional Independence and possess a carefree attitude. As a rule, they are attracted to what is generous, and so much so that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. If the rest of the chart is in agreement, they see no need to limit themselves to one partner, and may make promises that are difficult to keep. Friendly, outgoing and adventurous, they have a wide circle of social contacts. Relationships are growth producing opportunities and they learn something from everyone they meet.

Possessive, controlling and highly emotional relationships are usually too heavy for this person. Perhaps a relationship based on the same religion, philosophy or moral values is highly sought; they love exploration and may travel far and wide to find what they are looking for. Generally speaking there is a positive attitude to relationships, they are frank and outspoken about inner feelings and seek open and honest relating. Those with Venus in Sagittarius may have an impractical approach to love, and there is usually a love of quantity and belief in a love that is boundless. The individual will often possess ardent, warm and non-possessive feelings, and seek spontaneity and in a relationship. A love that is uninhibited and adds meaning and growth to their life is attractive to them.

Leo Rising

A person with Leo rising usually presents a confident and sunny exterior, but how they feel on the inside is another matter altogether. Astrologers describe the Ascendant as the “door to the house”, and astrologer Sue Tompkins uses this analogy to describe the rising sign.

“The Ascendant is the lens through which we view the world and through which the world views us. Imagine you are wearing spectacle with blue-tinted glass, so as you look out on to the world everything will appear to have a blue tint. People looking at you will see you with a blue tint, too. Although you may not be aware of it, other people will be viewing the same world but they will see things differently because they are viewing it through differently coloured glass”.

Those with Leo Rising take pride in their appearance, and project an image of significance and self-importance. Significant points in Leo often have great energy and the individual usually expresses generosity, leadership qualities, courage and creativity. The individual proudly projects himself onto others and many have something distinguishing about their appearance, usually a rich crop of hair is something that stands out. An innate sense of destiny is keenly felt, and the need to make an impact on the environment through personal style and originality is ever-present. The sign projects a dignified manner and regal air, but is vulnerable to rejection and criticism, and takes it rather subjectively. The king of beasts is too proud to show their wounded side in public.

Leo rising people have charisma and personal power, but have a tendency to overlook others at times. The world is perceived as a stage on which everybody else is revolving around them, and experiences are interpreted with a colourful imagination. The type is attracted to theatrical and dramatic circumstances or events. The strength of their personal power is sometimes dominating and overwhelming, but the chart is filtered through the light of creative expression.

Leo symbolizes those things that awaken the childlike spirit and open the heart, so activities such as art, literature, romance, music and drama are all enjoyed. A Leo Rising unable to shine may find admiration and applause for his special abilities in these type of fields. Life can get dull without any room for creative uniqueness, and this person is developing a powerful aura, and strong sense of self without being too over-bearing, self-aggrandising and overly commanding. Leo usually stands out from the crowd and possesses personality and presence. A need to be special can give way to a fear of being unnoticed and viewed as merely one amongst a mass of people.

Moon in Leo

A person born with the Moon in Leo tends to express feelings dramatically and with intensity. This combination is  inclined to be proud, and they need to be noticed and make an impact on the environment. Similarly, they need recognition, acknowledgment and praise from others. Furthermore, they may become compulsive in their need for attention and power and seek security in the ‘limelight'. There is a strong sense of individuality with this position and if their demands for attention are ignored, they feel wounded; the individual is also jealous and sensitive to criticism. More usually though, they appear confident, self-assured and forceful, and they are determined to make a definite impression on others. It is important for this sign to be recognised and it is difficult for these people to be detached. Everything is taken as personal praise or insult, but there is natural sincerity, loyalty, warmth and generosity, that will usually draw a positive response from others.

Commonly they are optimistic, cheerful and sunny, and not much dampens their spirit. Leo possesses natural leadership qualities, and they always do things with a natural flair and showmanship. These people are often naturally artistic or interested in drama and the theatre. Some will have a natural rapport with children and will enjoy entertaining them. Not surprisingly, they can be childlike, self-expressive, and fun, too. Often the individual has a fiery temperament and straightforward honesty. Furthermore, they encourage others to get in touch with their creative and artistic side. The individual loves romance, passion and plenty of colour in their lives. At times they can be stubborn, bossy dogmatic and unbending, with an air of superiority about them. This person has a sense of their own importance and won’t do jobs that they consider to be beneath them Still, there is true generosity that is heartfelt, and they don’t ’give’ to receive, but need to know that their gifts are appreciated.

At best they can be an excellent source of inspiration to others and they will inevitably find an outlet for all their inner potential. Leo Moons have a golden quality about them that shines through, and they are naturally sociable and agreeable people. The symbol of Leo is the Lion and this is reminiscent of their guarding, protecting side. There is a strong sense of dignity and inner strength; moreover, they tend to see things in a grand way. Leo’s sense of destiny is the driving force behind their achievements, but they can set high standards for themselves and expect others to emulate them.
