Virgo Rising

virgo rising, worried girl, twirling her hair
Those with Virgo Rising approach life with a strong need to bring order to the external environment. Well mannered and polite, this individual may be perceived as nervous and situations are dealt with cautiously, and only acting when there is sufficient knowledge of a situation. The analyst is ever-present in first meetings and Virgo can juggle several thousand details around at once, and sort out any mess you care to mention. Sometimes they don’t participate much verbally and may enter a certain situation with the intent to analyse and critique what is happening. Virgo rising usually projects sensitivity and shyness and unless they have the back-up of intellectual and professional skills it may be difficult for them to assert themselves in the right manner. Still, the unconscious side of the personality longs to let go and let feelings flow after a long hard day of work.

This person is discriminate and views life through reason using an intellectual framework. The preferred mode of expression is by utilizing a systematic way of working, sorting, sifting and editing. Unless something is done correctly and the right way, the individual is often far too self-critical. Virgo risings approach others with a keen sense of service and come across as being kind, helpful and useful. Being modest in demeanour these people seek to improve situations, and develop a positively efficient personality. Virgo Risings tend to comment on what’s flawed, unworkable, ’needs seeing to’ and fixed. In fact, they like to sort things out and see to all those little details and are developing better working practices.

Often the first response to a situation is to analyse and break it down, and if there is a problem, Virgo seeks to find the solution. Significant points in this sign have a fluid and flexible approach. Driven to practice and hone its skills, and sometimes through working in private and isolation, often this critical and orderly outlook, masks a fear of chaos and confusion.

Pluto in Virgo

pluto in virgo, winged maidens
Pluto transited through Virgo between 1956 and 1972. It was during this time that the contraceptive pill was introduced, representing the power of the feminine (Virgo) and sexual freedom. However, it also brought more health concerns about sexually transmitted diseases. It became more important to understand the relationship between the mind, body and environment. Pluto in Virgo changed attitudes to work, health and everyday habits, and the transit helped to heal past abuse of the earth's resources. Psychological growth occurred in areas of purification, health, self-help and self-improvement. Society learned new techniques and methods to improve life, and this whole generational cycle dredged up inadequate services and systems.

“The people of the 1960’s weren’t yet aware of what the “Atom Bomb” had really done, what pollution would mean, what a disgusting world was being created. They were too busy watching everything beautiful. It was foretaste, according to Nostradamus, of what would come again much later. In addition, there was a most interesting and unusual planetary conjunction in the heavens of the 1960’s, a Uranus/Pluto conjunction in Virgo, the sign of daily life, natural law, and the cycles of nature. This conjunction reflected a period of radical change in thinking about the quality of daily life and certainly can be tied with the whole concept of “flower-power”. By Liz Greene

In 1956, when Pluto had entered Virgo at 0 degrees (sign of service), federal ruling ended segregation on public buses. It took a great deal of organization, since most black people (Pluto) depended on the bus service to get them to work, and the white city officials did everything in their power to make it difficult, including prosecuting the black cab services that had begun to charge a 10-cent-fare (the same as bus fare). There were several acts of violence and various attempts at negotiation that amounted to nothing. Transiting Jupiter was also at 0 degrees in Libra (Justice and equality) and Neptune (erosion of boundaries) was transiting in Scorpio (Pluto’s sign).

By 1956 a new drug to fight Polio was used, it is a viral disease that affects the nervous system and causes complete paralysis and death. The drug was radically made available. In 1963, when Uranus formed a conjunction to Pluto in Virgo, the U.S President, John F. Kennedy was assassinated by a gunman as he travelled in his car from the Airport to downtown, Dallas, Texas. Political figures, anarchy, and sudden events are ruled by Uranus. John had represented vibrant hope and progress (Uranus) to a new generation of American’s, so his death (Pluto) struck a terrible grief to the nation. Martin Luther King, Civil Rights Activist (Uranus), was also shot dead on the balcony of his motel.

On March 18, 1967, the super tanker Torrey Canyon, carrying 120,000 tons of oil, struck a rock in England. Instantly, its 31 million gallons oil began to leak out into the sea, destroying (Pluto) the majority of marine life,  contaminating the water and creating a major environmental (Virgo) disaster.

Songs of the Zodiac: Virgo

virgo songs girl with green eyes wearing a headset
Virgo rules our mental and critical faculties, there is something of the craftsman in this sign with their eye for detail and the development of routine that help hone these skills. Popularly known as the sign of service, those with Virgo prominent need to affirm their sense of identity through its own usefulness in society. One of its skills is deciding what is useful and productive and what serves no purpose. Virgo has the gift of discrimination, selection, analysis and prioritizing. Sometimes Virgo is so obsessed with details that it often misses the larger picture, and like a jigsaw puzzle everything has to “fit”. The sign likes to use their critiquing efforts to bring organization to chaos. Unlike Taurus, Virgo will adapt to the environment and also tries to improve it. The acquisition of knowledge and skills ensures that time is not wasted. The sign possesses strong instincts about what is healthy and unhealthy, and is very willing to help.

Virgo

virgo, woman with wheat
Virgo’s have a highly developed sense of correctness and order, and it often has to weigh this against the imperfections and chaos that form a part of everyday life. In their attempt to get everything right, the sign sometimes jeopardizes what is really important to them. Virgo’s have a strong need to use their extraordinary powers of discrimination, together with their immense capacity for digesting information, to help make both the self and the world around them more efficient and effective. Virgo is learning to perfect and refine themselves as a vessel for service, so that they can take part in life. Virgo represents the principle of analysis, and is associated with the development of the critical faculty. Whenever we accumulate information and sort through it, using our mental powers of evaluation and discrimination, we are exercising our Virgo function.Virgo enables us to select what is relevant to our purpose, and reject that which has no practical value. Putting life in working order is a must for the neatest sign of the zodiac. The analyzer wants to find ways to solve problems before disaster strikes, it won’t wait for a situation to spin dangerously out of control. It will analyze the little things which can go wrong before the crisis looms. No one is more discriminating than a Virgo, they like to classify, order, and synthesize, bringing together different parts, and selecting how it all works together. Like Gemini, Virgo is ruled by Mercury, but where Gemini likes to collect information for it’s own sake, for Virgo knowledge is only relevant if it is useful and serves a purpose. The Virgo mind is often working overtime trying to put their thoughts and ideas into some kind of order.

One way to know the details of something is to take it apart, Virgo likes to break things down into many interrelated pieces, and then study each piece intently while learning how that particular part is meant to function. Virgo’s deepest motivation is that they need to be needed, they need to feel useful. And being an earth sign they like security, and security is often found through being of practical use in the world. Virgo is the student and observer of life. Another trait of Virgo’s is that they can be obsessive, this could be about tidiness and order in obvious ways, but they can also be obsessive about emotional orderliness and tidiness. The sign thinks it knows better ways to do just about anything, methods that they are willing to teach others to perfect. Social service is somewhat an act of healing to the analyzer, since they try to do things which help make life better for all. Virgo thinks mainly of what will provide the best practical results, for many people not just for themselves.

In human relationships Virgo is thoughtful, solicitous and kind. Even the manner in which Virgo criticizes is meant to be helpful and constructive, for Virgo wants their loved ones to be the best and as pure as they can. Virgo is devoted, but not sentimental, highly sensual, but not given to dramatic passions. Their charm is subtle and alluring. Virgo is were we discriminate and bring order to that part of our life. Where we are learning to sharpen our critical faculties. Virgo is the enemy of faulty thinking and delusion, they favour down to earth solutions to life and shun anything impractical and they are only interested in what is workable. It is necessary to sort out what we need , what is useful and serves a purpose to what is outgrown and no longer useful for us. To sort the wheat form the chaff. In Virgo we find the spirit of self improvement and work that involves improving life.

Back to School: Virgo

astrology seasons and Virgo's mutable earth energy

My little boy, Nathan, (aged 5 in two weeks) attends full time school for the first time tomorrow. I will be a little emotional. The six weeks that he has been off hasn't been too bad, apart from the last week when boredom and restlessness have taken over. He can't wait to return to school again and see his friends and teachers. A couple of weeks back I decided to try for another baby with my partner, so I will see how it goes. I know the predictable broodiness has set in when one leaves the nest for school. However, this time it's planned. With Nathan I had an unexpected pregnancy when transiting Uranus was conjunct my natal Sun. It sounds stupid a grown woman saying "unexpected," I know all about the birds and bees. I won't go into it all, but it really was a surprise pregnancy and a happy one. I am looking forward to extending the family. We are currently in the month of Virgo, and this is a time we are preparing to go back to school and a normal routine (yay). You check everything is ready for school, like the archetypal Virgo: uniform, book bag, sports gear, new shoes. I have sent my little boy out for his haircut today with his dad, so I can cross that off the Virgo check list. All the practicalities need to be taken care of in this period. The last week has been the busiest (mutable Virgo earth) in the sense that we rush around preparing everything. We are all a little anxious and making sure everything is in order.

I will have more time on my hands and I need to do some more site optimisation and improve articles on the blog, rounding them out, re-editing and adding improved content. In Virgo, we need to think about how we can improve quality, usefulness and productivity. I am beginning to understand the unseen work element of both the 6th and 12th house a little more. The Mercury Retrograde period in Virgo is more powerful in the sign it rules and it reflects this introspective time. With all the kids returning to school with Mercury Retrograde. I do wonder if that will have any impact.
Mercury retrograde introduces us all to Virgo-like energy three times a year. The next time Mercury goes retrograde, note the archetypal energy all around us-the sense of patient waiting while we perform humble, routine tasks-the introspection, the industrious planning, or most important, repetition of the old task that was imperfectly completed the first time. On a Mercury retrograde, we wait, we live in the "meanwhile," the alchemical interval during which nothing at all seems to happen. We may go eagerly to the mailbox each day and be disappointed. Or we are reviewing, rewriting, reflecting. By Kathleen Burt

Saturn in Virgo 1949 - Britain Gains First Self-Service Shops

Service Saturn in Virgo
Saturn in Virgo - Efficient Shopping

In March 1949, the British government announced that it would licence 100 companies to try out self-service shops, which had already been trialed successfully in America. The move marked the birth of the modern supermarket. Instead of queuing to be served, customers would be able to select pre-wrapped items themselves, put them in a basket or trolley, and take their purchases to a checkout near the exit. It was hoped that the altered layout would reduce staffing requiring thus lowering costs, and make shopping more efficient for everyone.

During this period Saturn had entered the service orientated sign of Virgo and acts as an important marker for this new time-saving and efficient way of shopping for food. Saturn rules limitations, boundaries, structure, self-sufficiency and challenges us to overcome obstacles. The planet compels us to seek solutions, set goals and establish schedules. Virgo is the vessel of service, routine, efficiency, and utilizing time in the best way possible and rejecting that which has no practical value. On a world scale, Saturn in Virgo represents a time to look at working ethics in society and at practical and efficient ways off getting the job done. The president of the London Cooperative Society said” The ’Serve yourself’ service is the system of the future, whether the private traders like it or not. The housewives like it. And that’s enough“.

I was born 30 years later and I can't imagine how we shopped any other way. Now we have Internet shopping and have progressed further. The same year, the sweets ration was finally called off. The sweets rationing began in 1942 with Saturn moving through Taurus, the pleasure loving sign. It is interesting that the rationing ended in Virgo. I read that many women took up smoking when sugar became scarce, so the tobacco industry expected a drop in sales as sugar became more widely available.

Quotes for Virgo

virgo angel wings made of wheat with beautiful skyline
"Virgo's who are addicted to work will often encounter a crisis which forces them to take a sabbatical, re-enacting the Persephone myth by experiencing a crisis and retreatng to the cool, dark depths of their personal underworld where healing is possible. Even the glyphs for Virgo and Scorpio resemble one another, Virgo's turning inward and representing the yin force while Scorpio turns outward and potrays a more yang aspect. In any case, the story of Persephone forced the rulers of Virgo and Scorpio (Ceres and Pluto) together in Libra-like compromise (the sign that seperates Virgo and Scorpio) that was deemed to be just and fair for all concerned. ~ Mythic Astrology

The first duty of a human being is to assume the right functional relationship to society -- more briefly, to find your real job, and do it (Charlotte Perkins Gilman)

Many parents mention that they are worried about the Virgo child. The anti-social hermit phase seems to continue so long that they fear perhaps the late blooming daughter will metamorphose some day into the picture of the Old Maid playing card. One mother told me " I fear she will wake up one morning a spinster who keeps cats."Usually it can be demonstrated to the parents satisfaction, though, that the hermit coincides with some kind of apprenticeship and it is not a social malajustment. When Virgo feels content or competent at his craft, he does develop interest in social life. It has little or nothing to do with chastity or sex, but is a type of Virgo simplfication. How many of my Virgo/Virgo rising clients have remarked over the years "I could never have been married during my first year of teaching (or nursing, or social work). I went home exhausted, took a nap and opened the books or the briefcase and worked until the wee hours. ~Kathleen Burt

I long to accomplish a great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker. ~Helen Keller

It offers many points of contrast with Leo. It is not the sign of leadership but of service; it does not aim at brilliant results but at useful ones. It is patient and does not turn from routine or drudgery; it hates show and shuns responsibility and publicity. It is not ambitious  but is satisfied with a straight job and a fair wage. ~ Charles Carter

I am somehow less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. ~ Stephen Jay Gould

Virgo is pre-eminently a sign of criticism and discrimination, especially as regards details, and the commonest failings of the sign are the outcome of this tendency. They may be chronic fault finders, cantankerous, predjudiced, and narrow in their views, with the result that they are unpopular with those that misunderstand their natures. At the same time many natives of Virgo are notably kind and ready to oblige those whom they recognize as friends. ~ Charles Carter

Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work. ~ Aristotle

Black and white choices imply a simple universe, and to Virgo the universe it rarely simple. It's more like a huge boundless, jigsaw puzzle, and it drives Virgo crazy if he hasn't got the picture on top of the box before he begins to assemble the puzzle.

Sometimes the only tidy thing to see around Virgo is his bookshelf, for many Virgo's respect to an inordinate degree the entire field of knowledge. His books are to him the personifications of his mind, and his mind is often like one of those intricate workings of a delicate Swiss watch, ceaslessly moving and catologuing and reflecting and considering and labelling. ~ Liz Greene

Saturn in Virgo

saturn in virgo

Organisation and discipline are applied to the finer details in life. You are learning to master and craft your skills. Ask yourself, how well can I do this job? You may be appointed to take responsibility concerning time, order, routine and to take work seriously. You need to establish reliable routines and true service is learned the hard way and shouldn‘t feel like a chore. Awareness of social responsibility and synthesis of mind and body are part of the master plan that Saturn has in mind. Virgo increases Saturn’s natural sense of order and so you are highly conscious of dis-order in the environment. On the flip side, you could be obsessive in some part of your life concerning order and details.

You have the task of separating the necessary from the unnecessary. Negatively there can be over perfectionism and a fear of making mistakes. Fault-finding can replace positive self-assessments and you may doubt your usefulness in society. You are learning to do things right, without being too hard on yourself. You doubt your skills and ability to the job, and need to learn to have more faith and work effectively.

Learn how to MANAGE daily life with more competence. Anxiety and nerves dominate and affect how you perform, and every minor fault receives a harsh self-review. In compensation, you might work yourself too hard at editing, filing, crafting and perfecting your skills. This isn’t the right use of Saturn in Virgo either. However, you may fear the job so much that you limit your job opportunities. Seriously, don’t develop a defeatist attitude and let fear work for you, let it be the goad that pushes you to improve.

With these exacting standards any job performed has to be done the RIGHT way. The greatest challenge is focused on your ability to analyse, discriminate, develop knowledge and use the intellect as a tool. Don’t be a time waster in life and learn how to structure the day. Develop a natural earthy rhythm, and learn how get the most productivity in the time available. Otherwise, constant discontentment and lack of confidence in daily affairs will predominate. There may be a dislike of boring and repetitive routines and difficulty in finding ANY joy at work.

Saturn's placement signifies where we feel doubt and fear failure. Turn that F in to an E and then D until you finally pass with an A.  Enough of exams, they are making you more nervous. You possess fine administrative and analytical skills, however, more effort is needed to develop them. You may be hard in self-assessments but with determination you can master the job.

Jupiter in Virgo

jupiter in virgo

Hope and inspiration are sought through a world view that we live in an orderly reality. Joy can be found in craftsmanship and detail. Growth and development is achieved when you see how all the interrelated parts are connected to make up the whole. Good service and modest displays of faith are usually present. Jupiter is in detriment in this sign and it is often difficult to embody faith if you try to digest too much information or attempt to find a clear view-point in religion, as there are so many views and nothing is clear-cut. In comparison, we are small and nobody really KNOWS the correct answer to many philosophical questions. And you tend to distrust world views that have no practical application.

You are always searching for something more tangible and tend to be discerning in what you choose to believe in. There is always an obvious struggle linking the material and spiritual world. Analyzing concepts, philosophies and different types of religion could be one expression of this planetary placement, but the fault-finding energy of Virgo may also find its way into this sphere of life. “God is in the detail” could be your slogan, expansion through mental productivity, down to earth philosophy on life and believing in “what works” all best describe this pairing.

Work needs to have a sense of purpose and personal growth. Perhaps you will find a sense of meaning in routine or personal health and hygiene which could be beneficial aspects in your life. If you do follow any type of belief it will form as part of your daily routine and part of your reality, how you see it. Belief in life is built step by step as you piece the universal puzzle together and you want to create a belief system that is useful but also holds sense of meaning and creates a better society.

The intellectual powers can be good, although both sign and planet are a difficult fit. Virgo tends to be so detailed orientated that it is made more difficult to see the overall larger pattern at work. Depending on the rest of the chart this can lead to exaggerated self-critical tendencies, the placement works best when you aim to serve something greater through practical knowledge.

Mars in Virgo

mars in virgo

Personal desires are expressed carefully and there is little risk taking, you also prefer to act in discretion and take action in a service oriented way. Assertiveness and feeling empowered comes through doing a job well. Anger arises when everything is not in order because you actively do things with thoroughness and precision. There is a tendency to over-work with this placement and then irritability and annoyance can rise to the surface.

Strength comes when you use this energy well without wasting time on pointless tasks. Although, do try to focus on being helpful rather than critical. Bad service is another thing that gets on your nerves and you take action by doing it yourself. Arguments at work may also be evident and you can accuse others of not doing their job properly. In work you are very particular and do things in the correct way, but you tend to be hyper-rational and can be cutting in your assessments of others abilities and potential.

You are not one to flap about helpless if something needs to be done. However, sometimes you don’t ask for the things you deserve. You are passionate about facts and may aggressively assert that you are right all the time. Still, you can help others straighten out their life and show them how to take the appropriate action. The ability to do routines repetitively and with efficiency is also pronounced. Virgo tends to contain Mars’ energy but you work hard for everything you get and often need a sports outlet to release any nervous and high-strung energy.

Venus in Virgo

venus

In astrology Venus in Virgo is said to be in its fall, but it doesn’t mean she cannot experience love like any other. Underneath you seek relationships that are refined and there is intolerance towards behaviour that is unacceptable and this can lead to fault finding. Attention is paid to every little detail in romance. Personal relationships are scrutinized and personal attractiveness has a critical gaze. Your self-worth needs to be looked at when your in and out of romance.

Love is expressed through small, mindful acts of kindness and practical gestures. You attract others by your modest unassuming nature and like people who are reliable, helpful and know how to do their job with skill. You tend to worry a lot around relationships but it is only because you want it to work. Nonetheless, be aware of becoming a doormat and enabler,  learn how to split the work 50/50. You are not blind in love and can see the relationship perfectly clear.

You may have discerning taste in clothes, foods, and anything you deem worthy. You can sort the valuable from none valuable and there is an understated taste regarding style and beauty. A well groomed appearance may be appealing and there is a lovely shy charming nature that is alluring to potential mates. You value daily routine, simplicity, care and attention.

Inhibited feelings, shame or a prudish nature can make it difficult to express the affections. Everything has to be just right in a partnership and you can list what you want in a lover down to the last detail. Basically, you know what you like and what you don’t like. There is a tendency to weigh a partner's perceived faults against your own virtues. However, you can live without a relationship if doesn’t meet your requirements. Above all, you understand the daily work involved in a successful relationship.

Mercury in Virgo

mercury in virgo
Mercury in Virgo (exalted) views and perceives life through detail and piecing all the parts together into an orderly whole. The analytical abilities are far above average and information needs to be clear and easily digestible. Clarity and conciseness are what matter in writing, speech and communication. Sometimes by being overly immersed in detail you can lose a broad vision and can have a critical nature when it comes to minor issues. This placement of Mercury strives to be logical and objective. Information is gathered for useful purposes and there is often an interest in health and work related subjects.

Mercury in Virgo sets out mental tasks to complete, and you have a innate, intellectual filing system, sorting out what is relevant and useful to you. Your discriminatory abilities are powerful and you care more about accuracy than relying on the imagination. Correctness is important and so you are very careful about what information is relayed to others. You are least likely to swallow concepts whole, and need to scrutinize what is presented. You break information down, and only use what is applicable to the reality and observation. Factual information is what matters and this is a good placement for studying, writing and speaking. Reasoning ability is also well developed, because you always try to find the most logical solution to any problem.

When involved in mental activities you don’t waste time and involve yourself in specialized branches of knowledge. When problem solving you intellectually think about the pro’s and cons before verbalizing your answer. Classification is your speciality, along with areas that involve compiling data and sorting out factual information. You don’t miss a step in mental evaluations and prefer to use methods of breaking down complicated information and analyzing it piece by piece. In this way you come to a much clearer understating of the totality of a problem. You hate to make mistakes and pay fine attention to grammar and spelling, so you keep your focus sharp and hone in on all those details. Sequence, order and evaluation are a high priority in your work.

Moon in Virgo

moon in virgo green fairy holding flowers in woods by lake
Those with the Moon in Virgo feel emotionally secure when they involve themselves in practical affairs, work, details and health matters. The type is usually concerned with order and the threat of chaos and disruption can create considerable anxiety and stress. Virgo's nature is cool and contained, moreover, they are discriminating and  concerned with keeping a well-ordered emotional environment.

Virgo's tend to worry too much and their emotions are filtered analytically. However, there is a gentle humility and desire to serve others, to be kind and helpful. Typically liking to keep everything nice and rational, everything has to have a logical explanation. Overt emotional displays are often an embarrassment and the individual is discerning and limited in their sympathies. Moon in Virgo also has innate shyness around expressing feelings and defend themselves against the irrational.

Virgo’s tendency to take everything apart is naturally expressed in the home, family and emotional spheres. Critical assessments, responding to daily mess in a functional and orderly capacity is how they nurture. Service, organisation, and sorting out daily problems is where these types often  feel most comfortable, and their natural instinct is to find a solution to daily problems and to nurture this ability in others. Virgo Moon's are always cleaning, mending, running errands and fixing things. Sometimes there are deep feelings of inadequacy, fault-finding and lack of self-esteem.

"A Stitch in Time Saves Nine", should be their slogan, as a rule, this  person doesn’t believe in putting things off until later and deal with problems straight away. Virgo's need to improve practical conditions for loved ones and family. Furthermore, they enjoy making lists of chores and important jobs to complete. Cleaning up the spills in life is where they are particularly skilled, but there is a tendency here to become a work-aholic. Frequently they tend to follow repetitive behavior patterns, and are focused on the minute details. This person is self-critical, assessing and evaluating their performance of various tasks. Usually though, their methodical nature enables them to excel at activities that require preciseness, neatness and attention to details. Ordinarily, the sign is skilled in computing, accounting, system analysis, weighing and measuring, their sense of correctness and order also makes them good at grammar and teaching.

The Virgo-Pisces Opposition - Selfless-Service

virgo and Pisces

The symbolic meaning of the opposition aspect (180 degrees)  symbolizes the balancing of two opposing energies. The opposition is considered a difficult aspect in natal astrology. However with this aspect in particular, the elements are complimentary and water and earth can sustain one another.
If you are willing to work with your opposition you can get this conflicting pair to work together, and you can achieve a more balanced state in your life. One analogy used to describe an opposition is, the see-saw. With a see-saw when too much weight is placed on one side/sign it throws the other side out of balance. An extreme emphasis on one sign can create the need for the opposite sign to apply greater force to re-balance the situation. Both opposing signs appear as disconnected spurts of energy. Yet, they need and depend on one another for greater harmony and balance.

virgo and Pisces
Pisces is a mutable water sign and is classified as emotionally giving without “thinking” or judging. They have enormous compassion and sensitivity for all types of people. Weakness lies in the inability to use clear discrimination. Pisces often needs to recognize that to help-less, allows an individual to stand on his own two feet. If they could develop their critical faculties and clear judgement, this would allow them to see when help is genuinely needed. Often people use them as a human crutch.

Hitting rock bottom forces an individual to fix the problem using his own logic, skill and resources. Basically to sort his own mess out (Virgo). A wise verse says “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." Another phrase that describes the Virgo-Pisces opposition is: “Heaven helps those who help themselves." Virgo's focus upon self-help and analysis is all in aid of self-development. The 6th house (ruled by Virgo) signifies the ordering of the personality.

One of the fishes biggest problems is: finding the heart to say no. Virgo is far more discriminating, but both signs are kind and helpful, and they form part of the selfless-service axis. Virgo will not lend his sympathy to those people who are only looking for handouts and they understand the value of hard work, but they can also be overly critical and nit-picking in their assessments.

Virgo -“Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.”

Pisces - “Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain but it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving.”

Virgo - “Criticism is something we can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.”

Pisces - “He has a right to criticize, who has a heart to help.”
The Art of Doing Nothing

For of Virgo's self-analysis, editing, evaluation and engaging in repetitive manual tasks, it can leave them over-worked and soul-less and perhaps even joy-less at times. Pisces retreats from the physical world in order to refill their spiritual selves and indulge in their dream life. Virgo would benefit from learning the "art of doing nothing" and take breaks from their day-to-day work in order to relax.

"You can always find reasons to work. There will always be one more thing to do. But when people don't take time out, they stop being productive. They stop being happy, and that affects the morale of everyone around them". --Carisa Bianchi

virgo and Pisces
Pisces has a hard time dealing with the mundane world and repetition is not appealing to the psyche. Waking up to the same routine is the number one soul killer. Nonetheless, it offers security on the earth plane and a sense of natural order.  Many of us stuck in "daily routine" often talk about “breaking out of routine” and refer to it as a prison with no release. We complain about getting those dreaded chores done!

Inactivity allows the soul to rest and recuperate. In balance, taking too much time off to daydream can cause us to lose reality. Daily work still needs to be attended to regularly and it provides our lives with order. Routine is vital to our sense of well being and this is balanced by allowing us to have "time off" and attend to our spiritual self.

Psychic Deliberation

Virgo helps to ground Piscean dreams and make them workable. Whereas Pisces can bring the spiritual into the mundane world, especially if we are caught up in the daily grind of life. The axis is learning how to balance the mind, body and spirit. Virgo compartmentalizes life and everything has its place, function and use, they are mutable and earthy and so are adaptable to earthly life.

According to Liz Greene, (Astrology for Lovers) "Virgo is not a perfectionist, to be a perfectionist you have to be idealistic. And Virgo is more of a realist. No perfectionist ever accepted reality." The problem with Virgo is that they find it difficult to look beyond the horizon and get caught up in physical reality. Pisces sees the whole picture and knows when to let go. However,  it would help greatly if they understood the small parts of the engine that keep life functioning.

Pisces has difficulty being in the physical body and they must learn practical ways to ground themselves through routine, work, and a tidy environment, this enables them to exist in the here and now. Problems should not be allowed to build up into bigger ones. Pisces will offer unconditional love and compassion to those in great need, but true Spiritual work also involves doing jobs we don't like. The saviour (Pisces) image is often overly glamorised in society and the "real work" of helping is often extremely tough. Keeping grounded is vital, otherwise you would lose the self in the mist of grief, sorrow and misery and be pulled down with it.

Work is also an excellent tonic and can lift the spirits, especially when we feel that we are being useful and helpful . However, when work is over it helps to learn the art of “forgetting” (Piscean skill) and put aside unnecessary chores. The soul can often feel caged and imprisoned in the body especially when ill, tired and run down, care and attention needs to be given to body, mind and spirit.

“The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them. Even the most tedious chore will become endurable as you parade through each day convinced that every task, no matter how menial or boring, brings you closer to fulfilling your dreams.”

Virgo's Criticism

Critical evaluation should be more  highly valued than what is in the world, and not merely seen as "nit picking" or negativity. For example, if you are about to fork out a lot of money for a product, you read the reviews first before spending the cash. If you see that there are far more negative reviews outweighing the positive, would you fork out the money?

Virgo signifies how we critically assess and the energy doesn't belive anything on face value. Critics look beyond fancy packaging and glamourous advertisements. The real test lies in the efficiency and usability of the product.

Virgo is all about evaluation and sorts the wheat from the chaff. Here is where life is minimal and less cluttered and excessive. Wasting money and time on things that don't work, does not all appeal to this sign. Discrimination, realism and being helpful to others is what matters. To be honest, I rarely agree with movie critics, the films they rate as one or two stars (classified as poor to average) are usually the ones I enjoy the best. You cannot always rely on a single individual's evaluation.

Criticism makes one feels as if they have produced something unworthy and assessments often involve pointing out all the flaws. It must be remembered that Virgo's main objective is assessing how things can be improved. We all have Virgo somewhere in our charts and perhaps we can best use this faculty to improve our daily lives.

Venus in Virgo -The One with the List

One facet of Virgo's personality is their ability to arrange life into order. We order the personality, before stepping into the social sign of Libra. Lately, my wardrobe could do with some compartmentalizing, my clothes are thrown together in unity (Pisces) t-shirts with trousers and fancy clothes buried under a pile. I am dis-organized. Virgo's invented hangers and separate drawers and neat boxes for storage, and they do serve a useful purpose, and I should make use of them.

However, the trouble with "too much" compartmentalizing is that life isn't neatly packaged. And as a basic rule of thumb, DO NOT compartmentalize your lover in this way. Being critical or nit-picky is a passion killer, and you are never going to get a first date if you tick off boxes. I have a "Friends" scene (click to view) that best explains. Accept you partner flaws and all, but not to the extent that Pisces does.
