Aquarius Rising

aquarius rising, woman water bearer
Those born with Aquarius rising approach life with strongly held ideals of how the world should be. Often friendly with a tolerant outlook, they consider themselves to be fair-minded, and respectful of the views of others. The individual works best when involved with groups of like-minded people, and Aquarius has a genuine talent for ingenuity and creativity. As a social sign they are interested in making contributions that benefits humanity in some way and also progresses intellectual understanding. Sometimes those with Aquarius on the Ascendant come off as cold and detached in manner, but it’s because they are so involved with observing social situations, behaviours, attempting to understand the nature of laws and patterns. The sign has the least toleration for selfish pursuits, and would rather keep a situation cool and intellectual.

Aquarius on the ascendant holds impartial, logical and intuitive assessments of life, and would be embarrassed if viewed as too showy and self-important. Therefore, partners and close friends may be viewed as more dramatic and self-centred. Aquarius needs to be different and can also converse with a variety of different people. Everybody is the same underneath. Unconsciously people are drawn towards them, who are often creative individuals, intent on developing their own uniqueness. Aquarius’ shadow side seeks to develop a sense of his own destiny and creativity, so that they have something truly unique to offer mankind.

Those with important points in Aquarius value freedom, forward thinking, and progressive attitudes to life. Aquarius is the third of the air signs and the forth of the fixed signs, and can be found in the areas of science, astrology, research, communicating, and social networks. Circulating ideas, organizing, and looking towards the future are all important attributes, and you will find the water bearer looking for ways to benefit the lives of human beings.

Slavery Abolished: New Independence - Uranus in Aries

On September 25th, 1927, all forms of slavery were abolished after a treaty was signed at the League of Nations Slavery Convention. The astrology of this day is quite visually astounding. There was a line-up of planets in Libra (it’s not fair), and transiting Uranus had just entered Aries and had formed a conjunction with Jupiter. It is quite similar to the planetary Jupiter-Uranus conjunction we are currently under.

Uranus’ entry into Aries is important because the planet rules freedom, greater consciousness, and demand for change, along with a new vision for humanity. It’s not that I think slavery is completely abolished; we could look at child labour and illegal factories that pay very low wages to its workers. There are numerous other cases where slavery is still heavily prevalent. However, the abolishment of slavery was still a turning point in History. The sign of Aries represents independence and signifies the rights (Uranus) of the individual as a singular identity. I believe it was an important point in humanity’s growth and a major step forward, although we still have a long way to go. The whole period was liberating for the opposite sex, according to astrologer Sue Tompkins, it was the first time that women smoked, drank, cut their hair, voted and went on dates unchaperoned.

Jupiter Conjunct Uranus: Best Break-through Performance

Jupiter conjunct uranus thank your lucky stars
Transits between Jupiter and Uranus are sometimes prominent when an up and coming star gets his or her first major break-out role. The conjunction signifies greater independence, progress and unexpected opportunities. On the intellectual level, scientific breakthroughs occur, astrology, computers, electronics and higher mathematics benefit greatly during these periods and we often see leaps in technological advancement. The conjunction between these planets is often hanging around when lucky opportunities, sudden strokes of luck and discoveries appear. We break through barriers, knock down doors, and our full potential is explored. The transit occurs under times of great growth and advancement. It can also reflect a rebellious and reckless time, with the individual displaying non-conformist behaviour. Meaning in life may be through unorthodox studies such as astrology. Erbetin has named it ‘the Thank the Lord’ configuration. On a mundane level we experienced Man walk on the Moon in 1969. The first Sheep was cloned under the Jupiter conjunction in Aquarius in 1997. The extremely popular horoscope site Astrodienst formed under a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in 1983.

Astrologer Liz Greene was introduced to astrology during a transit of Jupiter-Uranus which formed a conjunction in Gemini in the 7th house. After a meeting with Mrs Hickey, she was urged to explore astrology further, and is considered a leading expert in the field and has benefited many astrology students.

Quote from "Astrology of Fate" by Liz Greene:

Naturally I was quick to inspect the transits and progressions in operation at the time of my meeting with Mrs Hickey and its subsequent repercussions. The most striking transit at work was Jupiter passing through Gemini and making a direct station on my natal Uranus in the seventh house. This is a classic interpretation of a 'fated' (or synchronous) encounter, which brought opportunities in its wake but left my life as quickly as it had come. I have learned since to pay close attention to the transit of Jupiter, for although they often pass quickly and without noticeable concrete benefits for the person who is waiting for heaven to shower manna on him, they often coincide with opportunities which can greatly expand one's vision and understanding. But one must act on such openings which appear in the curtain that masks the inner world. We might do well to remember Zeus, who with lightning quickness pursues and mates his chosen paramours, and then vanishes as quickly, leaving them fertilized with a semi-divine child to bear.

Megan Fox’s role in the box office smash Transformers, as the lead female character, put her face all over television, magazines and bedroom walls. It has been described as her ‘breakout role’ and rightly so. In 2007, when the dark haired beauty was cast as Mikaela Banes, transiting Jupiter was conjunct Uranus in Sagittarius.

The movie Twilight was released on November 21st 2008. Robert Patterson, gained the role of lead Vampire (Edward Cullen), and had transiting Uranus tightly conjunct his natal Jupiter on the night of the premiere. The star is massively popular amongst teenage girls, and a DVD was released called Robsessed!

The other massive teen sensation Justin Bieber was discovered sometime in 2008, and later signed when transiting Jupiter was forming a conjunction to his natal Uranus. The young star exploded internationally and has become a massive success with many adoring teenage fans.

Moon in Aquarius

A person with Moon in Aquarius needs to be free of negative emotions such as greed, fear, anger and Jealousy. Emotions which might be deemed selfish and demanding are usually controlled or unacknowledged. Aquarian principles are concerned with social issues, ethical standards and equality. This means that they are far more concerned about matters that pertain to mankind rather than one individual. Emotionally tinged with futuristic qualities these people instinctively know about social trends before they appear and are nourished by ideas and patterns at work.

Involvement in the media may suit them and the sign often likes to be where it’s happening, whether its politics, fashion, art or social activism. Aquarius is the sign of humanity and social observer viewing life from a distance. Astrologer Liz Greene describes the air signs/houses as “fly on the wall” types. Air signs need to discuss and view feelings from an intellectual level and keep at a safe distance. As a rule, they hate confinement and over emotionalism, and prefer to keep it cool. Aquarians also need verbal and social contact as isolation tends to create anxiety.

Moon in Aquarius has a natural friendly, observant and detached manner. The type offers impartial advice, and intellectualizes situations, although when this is taken into relationships, they can appear cool or emotionless. Aquarius had a great need for "friends" and function best in groups that nurture and share the same ideals, opinions and vision. This person tends to see what they have in common with people, and frequently encourage others to be aware of the larger picture in any given situation.

Moon in Aquarius would naturally feel open-minded, non judgmental and need to be well-informed about society. Secrecy and non commutation would not sit well. All planets in Aquarius operate with high standards of decency and integrity and give others space if needed. Sue Tompkins says this placement needs good platonic friendship with women, and that many European men with this Moon are attracted to American women or American culture, because the USA has its Moon in Aquarius.

The impulse to be be different from others and not to be pigeon holed is powerful. Typically inventive and innovative with an instinctive understanding of technology, many people with this Moon have flashes of real genius. The humanitarian in them wants to make the world a better place, and security is found in the world of ideas and spheres that are not touched by the imperfection of reality.

Rebel Without a Cause: The Uranian Man!

Outer Planetary Movie Relationships: Uranus

Uranus rebel James Dean

A Uranus type of man represents those rebellious, progressive and free spirits in society. The movie and archetype for this type of relationship is Rebel Without a Cause. The film is about a group of young delinquents, and Jim, (played by James Dean) is a new teen in town who rebels against his parents, authorities and school. The teen is arrested on a drunk and disorderly charge and at the station he meets Judy, who is acting wildly in frustration over her cold and distant father (Uranus). Jim becomes involved in a dispute at school with a bully named Buzz, and after watching The Big Bang theory, at the planetarium, he goes outside and witnesses Buzz slashing his car tyres. The two fight outside and Jim, holding the razor sharp edge of a knife to Buzz's throat, wins. Jim is challenged to race in a “chicken run”, and anxious to fit in, (Saturn) he agrees to race. At the top of a cliffside they speed towards the edge, and whoever jumps out of the car first, loses. The story is about about a group of self-willed teens and signifies the search for a” cause” and pursuing the ideal. The movie has tragic consequences as one boy plummets to his death. The teens in the movie are outsiders, outcasts and youngsters living on the edge, they don‘t fit in. Most of the problems are due to a lack of an authority figure/father. Jim views his father as the henpecked husband and it’s difficult for him to have respect for such a man.  Wild teens/gangs are ruled by Uranus, he is the divine rebel of the planetary gods. Jim, is the classic misunderstood teen rebel.

A relationship with Uranus

The Uranian man wants change, freedom, and progression. Rules, boundaries and restrictions, limit him from living out his full potential. Uranus types may be seen as misfits, social outcasts and odd, he doesn't do what is expected, because he is self-willed and acts like a vibrant force in the lives of others. The Uranian runs through like an electrical current, shocking others and stirring up excitement.

His intent is to break free from conventional attitudes and controlling forces, but may find himself in trouble with the government, police and the system. He resists anything that is traditional and repressive and is often viewed as an uncooperative and explosive force, in fact, usually sudden and shocking events surround him. The Uranian man may be prone to fits of violence and lives life on his own terms. Many people doubt him and see him as too much of a “wild card” and urge him to take more responsibility. Others will try and suppress his energy which he often violently resists. The Uranian man is usually innovative and exciting, but never dull.

Law Breakers

Not all Uranian men are law breakers/rebels or even misfits. Another expression of Uranus is high intelligence and originality, his mind may be inventive and perhaps he is able to foretell new trends ahead of our time. Friends and other like minded individuals are important, and he feels less isolated. This is how gang culture has survived so long in society as most Uranians are not bound to family through blood ties. Uranaian people may also enjoy the Internet and joining groups that hold the same ideals. Technology, Science, electricity, aviation and space are all Uranus pursuits, even an interest in other subjects like extra-terrestrials, astrology, or the occult is another expression. Uranian energy also signifies detachment, and sometimes detachment can be a good thing, because he sees things from a clearer perspective. In extreme cases, some types suffer from mental or nervous instability. Those with Uranus aspects will often state their "truth" in an extremely opinionated fashion, and he doesn’t care what others think, so in social situations he may cause embarrassment with these sudden outbursts. The Uranus impulse is unpredictable and acts as an agent for change in the environment. Some Uranian men tend to stand out like a sore thumb at school or other conventional places; it is difficult to put him into a straight jacket.

The Uranian man intuits that there is more to life and most life events come “out of the “blue“, so be prepared for the unexpected. In the worse case scenario, he ruthlessly imposes his ideas with tyranny and radical idealism. Uranaians can be the movers, shakers and iconoclasts of our generation and the urge for freedom can be expressed internally. Be pepared, because he might not want to go down the traditional route of marriage and children and if he does, he must always have freedom to explore his potential, he never wants to feel trapped and stifled in a relationship. Uranian's refuse to live a banal and ordinary life that is drab. The 9-5 job can be suffocating, so he often needs his own hours. If he feels something is old, outworn, and past its sell by date, he seeks to change it.

The Fool

Fool Tarot Card Astrology
Close to the Edge
In the tarot, the Fool represents Uranus, a wild youth. It signifies the impulse to jump into the unknown and live close to the edge. The "fool" never plans anything and just lives with his ideals. The tarot card is reminiscent of the scene in "Rebel Without a Cause", when Jim and Buzz are standing at the edge of the cliff. However, through extreme recklessness, Buzz, flys off the edge and plummets to his death. The Fool in the tarot card depicts a man with a dog and he has no idea that he is standing directly above the abyss. Sometimes Uranians are literally so close to the edge of their minds/sanity that  they suffer from reckless accidents through impulsive nature. People may call him foolish, but he tries the untested, even if he doesn’t know the path that lies before him. This Uranian is in your life for a reason, and he is trying to get you in touch with your unexplored potential, and to live life on the wild side now and again. To live with more freedom and caring less about what others think, is to be free. When this guy crashes into your life things are never going to be the same. Encounters with him are lively, exciting and enlivening and it will be totally different from anyone or anything you may have  experienced before. Uranus is electric, magnetic, unusual and spontaneous. If you like to keep things moving and enjoy new experiences; the Uranian man can be just what you need. Uranus is all about the experimental, the original, eccentric and different. Uranus spins horizontally on its axis in space and is ruled by air, the lightest and freest of all the elements.

Uranus Transits

uranus transits

Transiting Uranus will reach the sign of Aries soon, so look for planets in Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Uranian sspects to these planets will point towards intense and perhaps challenging experiences. I would suggest marking the degree/s down of your natal cardinal planets and then find an online ephemeris to check when transiting Uranus will aspect your natal planet/s. Planets in fire signs will conjunct (Aries) and trine (Leo, Sagittarius) the Uranian impulse, and can express times when freedom and progress is made more easily in your life. We rarely have only good transits so examine all the transits happening at once to see how easy/difficult any change will be, and how much disruption it will bring.  Keep in mind the key words for the planets and houses and you will have a good idea how the transit will affect you for the coming period. You will never know the specific event, but when it arrives you will recognize it's Uranian face.

Uranian energy is electric, progressive and future oriented, and often frees up stagnated energy. Uranus brings a revolutionary, rebellious and willful impulse, and frees us from old ruts and limiting circumstances.  The experience can feel liberating or even disturbing, especially to an individual who deeply/rigidly values tradition, safety and the status qua. The Moon and Saturn in the natal chart usually find it hard to deal with Uranian changes. Both Uranus and Pluto often bring the most drastic and far reaching changes in our lives. And these two planets can uproot, disrupt and force change upon us. I think it was Jeff Green, who said that Uranus by house placement/aspects in the natal chart is where we can achieve accelerated growth. Uranus is all about advancement and progression. Uranus is idealistic and it can never accept situations or people as they really are.

Prometheus stole fire from the Gods to give to mankind, and to advance human beings and make us more "god like". And with this in mind, wherever we have Uranus we have that same idealistic vision and reformist/rebellious attitude. Uranus transits can re-set the course of our lives, and it can shatter our old life, self-image and move us forward. Clinging to the old tried and tested ways never helps us out of our predicament. Wherever Uranus is travelling, that area of life can become unconventional and the more we try to make things "normal" the more disruption occurs.  Uranus brings changes and new vision, and you can't approach the transit or even natal placement of Uranus in the usual way. Uranus is anti-social and not "predictable". Highly Uranian people will not travel down the expected road in life. And if they are forced to, wait for the anarchy. I will offer a cold rundown of the transits through the houses in upcoming posts, please try and look at the deeper meaning of the situation and whether change and freedom is needed. Uranus transits coming soon....

Killed by Lightning

In astrology Uranus rules sudden shocks!!!! Uranus is the urge to understand the overall pattern in our lives and acts as a bolt of lightning jolting us wide awake. Today, I want to take a look at the natal charts of those struck by lightning and killed, and see how Uranus figures in these charts. Prometheus (Uranus) the awakener is a powerful player here in both transit and natally. This post isn't about delving deep into the psychological implications of Uranus but portrays the power of this planet in transit.

Samuel Brashear Avis (February 19, 1872 – June 8, 1924) was an American politician who represented West Virginia in the United States House of Representatives from 1913-1915.

He was killed by lightning in Charleston, West Virginia June 8, 1924 and was interred there in Spring Hill Cemetery.

The Astrology

On the day that lightning struck transiting Uranus was conjunct his natal Mars in Pisces exactly!! This aspect indicates an increased level of Uranian energy.  It can indicate a rebellious time with the need to channel this energy into something exciting which uses up all this high level of Uranian impulse. Mars-Uranus is linked to sudden accidents in general and it often reflects physical energy that is overflowing with excitement and electrical currents. During this time you can become a bit of a live wire sparking off in new directions. Mars-Uranus contacts are often associated with dangers involving machinary, electrical equipment, fireworks and lightining. Transitng Saturn squared Uranus at the time of his death and he was made powerfully aware of Uranus. Saturn rules old structures and reliable forms of security, and when Saturn-Uranus meet in the chart it can shatter existing reality. Old forms collaspe to make way for a new vision, and in the case of Samuel Uranus broke through violently and entered right through his body.

Hernán Gaviria Carvajal (November 27, 1969 – October 24, 2002) was a Colombian football central midfielder. Gaviria died on October 24, 2002, when he and teammate Giovanni Córdoba were hit by lightning during a practice session with Deportivo Cali.

Gaviria was killed instantly, though he was not pronounced dead until arriving at Valle de Lilli Hospital; Córdoba died three days later. Nicknamed "Carepa", he left a wife and two children; he was only 32.

The Astrology

In this case transting Uranus was in an 8 degree orb on his natal Mars in Aquarius. Transitng Mars was conjunct Uranus on that day. Transiting Jupiter opposed his natal Mars in Aquarius exaggerating his Mars in the electric sign of Aquarius.

Geremis Segundo González Acosta (January 8, 1975 – May 25, 2008) was a Venezuelan right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers. In his rookie season he led the Cubs with 11 wins, but he was unable to continue that success in later seasons.

The Astrology

González died after being struck by lightning in Punta Palma, Zulia on May 25, 2008. At the time of his death Geremis had Transiting Uranus in Pisces squaring his natal Mars in Sagittarius. He also has a natal Mercury square Uranus contact.

Uranus

Uranus is the co ruler of Aquarius along with Saturn, and this electrifying planet takes us into the higher mind, and gives us the clear perspective and capacity for seeing the future in a blinding flash of clarity. Uranus is a great awakener, who brings visions and revelations. This planet symbolizes the urge for rebellion and for instigating a new order that reflects a more progressive way of thinking. Uranus seems to personify the need within the psyche to break free of identification with the material reality and to experience the world of archetypal mind.

Uranus has been called the Awakener because, the urge he symbolizes like all unconscious contents, is projected. It appears to come back to the individual as a sudden event which rips away the fabric of what was previously reality often in a highly painful way. Uranus has come to be associated with things such as invention, space, science , technology, electricity computing, aviation, exploration and the social sciences.

Maintaining this remarkably strong practical link with revolutionary change, modern astrology associates Uranus with radical idealism. Uranus symbolizes the power of the human mind to reach the realm of “universal ideas” and apply them to everyday lives. This is not the realm of the rational mind which belongs with Mercury, but that part of the intuitive mind that is capable of grasping whole concepts in a single blinding flash of insight.

Uranus is concerned with the truth and the kind of realizations that cut through everything. Uranus challenges all that has become stuck, sterile and predictable. It’s message is fiercely anti-establishment and unconventional. Planets touched by Uranus seek excitement, freedom and independence. In early life strong Uranian contacts in the chart regarding the planet that is being contacted, there was probably not too much in the way predictability and anchorage. Instead some kind of sudden disruption, shock or at least some inconsistency is indicated.

Individuals with such contacts seem habitually to recreate disruption in adulthood, rejection, alienation, estrangement and feelings of isolation are major emotional experiences to be associated with this planet. The notion of rejection is the insistence on independence. Uranus is the enemy of the tried and tested path and seeks to break free of things that tie us to the past, or limits us in some way.
