Venus in Aquarius

Venus in Aquarius seeks relationships which provide friendship, shared ideals, and common political views. Venus here has definite principles about relationships, and a deep sense of integrity makes any sort of betrayal unforgivable. Strong ethics give Venus in Aquarius loyalty, tolerance and a willingness to accept major differences within a partnership. Aquarius has strong beliefs about equality and fair play, and they believe in openness and honesty, and cannot tolerate any form of underhand behaviour. Aquarius is unprejudiced and race, religion, culture, land of origin, social status, doesn’t matter, and this sign mixes with everyone. In relationships there is little regard for social status and peer pressure. There is usually a marked affection for friends, and commonly friends become lovers and lovers turn into friends.

Those with Venus here have eclectic tastes, from the antique, unique and futuristic; anything beautiful and unusual in clothing, lovers and friendships is desirable. The preference is usually for someone intelligent, ingenious, friendly, social and quirky. Modern and innovative pieces of art are attractive, computer graphics, electronic music and unorthodox artwork appeal to them. A good example of this artistic temperament is Yoko Ono; she has Venus in Aquarius in the 5th house. The artistic vision may take the form of group collaborations, which benefit humanity.

The person with Venus in Aquarius has a horror of being possessed, and relationships tend to be cool and distant. They feel uncomfortable dealing with intense emotions and are appalled by displays of jealousy in others. It is difficult for them to accept their own darker emotions, so they simply cut off. Venus here insists on lots of space and independence in relationships. The person values progressiveness and their sympathies are usually expressed in broad humanitarian terms; rather than in a personal way. All Air signs need room to breathe and circulate, but a Venusian Aquarian is particularly fond of freedom and hates to feel restricted in a partnership. Restrictions placed on love, imply conditions. When Venus is placed in this social sign, excitement and creative stimulation is craved, and all expression is in the pursuit of some kind of “social cause”.

Pluto in Libra

Pluto in Libra scales of justice
Pluto was in Libra between 1971 and 1984 and reflected deep changes in our ideas about marriage, love and human relationships. Sexual equality and the ease of divorce were two of the profound changes which occurred during this generational transition of partnerships. Pluto is known as the timekeeper of the collective, and Pluto's transit in Libra signified the death of relating according to a complacent set of values. Pluto destroys, breaks down old forms and reveals a more honest way to relate (Libra). Libra rules relationships, not only marriage but world relationships, diplomacy between countries, alliances, peace, bridge-building and political parties. Pluto through Libra altered relationships significantly and was prominent at the rise of the feminist movement. Pluto was in Libra in 1979, when Margaret Thatcher became the first lady Prime Minister in England. Transiting Pluto was conjunct the British Descendant in Libra. Evolutionary astrologers would describe Pluto’s conjunction on the cusp of Libra, to signify forced lessons of equality. The Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay Acts also come into force in the U.K in 1975.

An individual born with Pluto in Libra belongs to a generation of people whose sense of survival depends on creating new ideals of human relationship and transforming the structure of laws and legal systems that breed inequality. Pluto in Libra rules the collective shadow of relations in all its forms. It rules what we want to eliminate and what we haven’t sufficiently dealt with. It describes what we haven’t faced honestly and hidden under the proverbial rug. Homosexual relationships at this time were becoming more recognised, Gay Rights and people who live together as a married couple were also given more importance. Relationships fraught with power-struggles were no longer tolerated now that divorce was an option.

The film Clockwork Orange was released with Pluto’s early entrance into Libra. Uranus (anarchist/social change) was also transiting through Libra. The film concerns a delinquent whose pleasures are listening to classical music, rape and gang violence. The movie explored the Librian dilemma about goodness, civil behaviour and abusing liberties. In Northern Ireland, 28 civil rights members were shot by soldiers of the British Parachute Regiment. Fourteen of the protesters died, six of them were teenagers. The incident became known as ‘Bloody Sunday’.

On a side note, the World Trade Centre (Twin Towers) was officially opened in New York City on April 4, 1973. Transiting Saturn was at 15 Gemini (sign of the Twins). The Twin Towers - Saturn Return and the opposition between Saturn and Pluto, brought extreme terrorists that hijacked four passenger planes and crashed two of them into the twin towers. Both towers collapsed within two hours. In 1973, President Nixon made it clear his intention was to bring an end to the Vietnam War and after much protest an agreement (Libra) was reached and signed by all parties.

As the scales of balance, Libra is the only sign in the zodiac represented by an inanimate object rather than by an animal figure or human. The sign involves constant balancing acts in relation to others. Libra’s scales are constantly weighing experiences and striving to create an ideal world of civilised behaviour, fairness and harmonious atmospheres. However sometimes they are incapable of knowing their own minds and have a reputation for being indecisive. In Libra’s psyche everything is mirrored and balanced by its opposite, in medical astrology Libra rules the kidneys, the pair of scales in the body that regulate and balance the workings of the internal system. In Libra we become conscious of the need for partnership, and those born under this sign are believed to be skilled diplomats and peace makers. Libra’s Aphrodite represents the ideal of beauty and relationships, the sign is unlikely to be cruel or deliberately injure another, and this innate sense of justice understands that ill-thought-out actions affect others, too. Although this often means the individual  is unable to deal with intense and uncivilised emotions such as jealousy, rage, hatred and revenge. As an air sign ruled by Venus, the mental facilities of Libra are intellectual and artistic with a predisposition towards romance and beauty. The sign has the intrinsic capacity to bring together opposites and to build bridges between warring factions.

Gemini

gemini, golden twins interlockrd
Gemini is the most Mercurial sign of the zodiac. While all of us are made up of many selves masquerading as one person. Gemini is the epitome of the split personality, bright, communicative, and sociable one minute, distracted and offhand the next. That is not to say that all Gemini’s are Jekyll and Hyde’s, but this sign embodies the duality of human nature better than most. Gemini must learn to bridge the opposites within: light and dark, intuition and reason, mind and emotions, spiritual and material. Gemini’s are learning to 'develop' their powers of intellectual discrimination, so that they can learn more about the world which surrounds them. The purpose of Gemini is to gather information and swap ideas, to be where the action is, they are the communicator’s of the zodiac, and the first sign on the wheel to represent social dialogue, this sign keeps the world and society in touch with each other, and with what is happening. Gemini is a free spirit, and needs an ever changing environment to keep them mentality alive.

Gemini is the first of the multiple signs on the zodiac wheel and this makes them the most adaptable and versatile, they enjoy the contrasts and contradictions in life that provide us with different ways to look at anything. Gemini is seen by others as the eternal child, they have lots of movement, curiosity, versatility with an endless questioning mind, there is too much to know and too much to talk about. Mental and communicative faculties are well developed, and they love to engage in dialogue, to debate and argue. Many Gemini’s are known to have the gift of the gab and they are sometimes fast talkers, and prone to verbal trickery.

Gemini is an intellectual sign, experimenting with ideas, analysing data, systematizing information and drawing conclusions. There is an imperative to reason through every thought and experience, which then must be communicated to those in their immediate environment. Gemini is perpetually shifting from one perspective to another, at each stage rationalizing that position before switching to the next.

Gemini is the sign of the writer, teacher, traveller and graphic artist, as long as they have plenty of scope in daily life to take in the information and pass it on. Gemini’s has an excellent memory, with a delightful wit, on the flip side of this they can tie themselves up in mental knots, and can talk and rationalize themselves into anything they want to believe. Gemini’s sometimes have trouble sustaining intimate relationships. Emotions are processed through the intellect and remain unexpressed until there is a logical framework through which to understand them. Often the individual is flirtatious, and they demand personal freedom, resenting anyone who tries to pin them down.

Moon in Aquarius

A person with Moon in Aquarius needs to be free of negative emotions such as greed, fear, anger and Jealousy. Emotions which might be deemed selfish and demanding are usually controlled or unacknowledged. Aquarian principles are concerned with social issues, ethical standards and equality. This means that they are far more concerned about matters that pertain to mankind rather than one individual. Emotionally tinged with futuristic qualities these people instinctively know about social trends before they appear and are nourished by ideas and patterns at work.

Involvement in the media may suit them and the sign often likes to be where it’s happening, whether its politics, fashion, art or social activism. Aquarius is the sign of humanity and social observer viewing life from a distance. Astrologer Liz Greene describes the air signs/houses as “fly on the wall” types. Air signs need to discuss and view feelings from an intellectual level and keep at a safe distance. As a rule, they hate confinement and over emotionalism, and prefer to keep it cool. Aquarians also need verbal and social contact as isolation tends to create anxiety.

Moon in Aquarius has a natural friendly, observant and detached manner. The type offers impartial advice, and intellectualizes situations, although when this is taken into relationships, they can appear cool or emotionless. Aquarius had a great need for "friends" and function best in groups that nurture and share the same ideals, opinions and vision. This person tends to see what they have in common with people, and frequently encourage others to be aware of the larger picture in any given situation.

Moon in Aquarius would naturally feel open-minded, non judgmental and need to be well-informed about society. Secrecy and non commutation would not sit well. All planets in Aquarius operate with high standards of decency and integrity and give others space if needed. Sue Tompkins says this placement needs good platonic friendship with women, and that many European men with this Moon are attracted to American women or American culture, because the USA has its Moon in Aquarius.

The impulse to be be different from others and not to be pigeon holed is powerful. Typically inventive and innovative with an instinctive understanding of technology, many people with this Moon have flashes of real genius. The humanitarian in them wants to make the world a better place, and security is found in the world of ideas and spheres that are not touched by the imperfection of reality.

Aquarius Drawing

I was looking around the web for new Aquarius pictures to update my blog, and I happened upon this video drawing of Aquarius. .You can search the site for other drawings. Sorry about the inconvenience with the change over the weekend. The blog needs a revamp now and again. Most of the pictures and articles need re-editing, and its not even Mercury Retrograde. I will start working through some astrology questions and have some more blog posts up this week. I found some lovely pictures for the air signs over the weekend, click here to see. I love the new Moon in Aquarius picture and I found a nice one for  Pisces too, she's gorgeous. I think I lose myself in art, imagery, music and writing. I little bit of escapism for a while... (Pisces). I am quite obsessed with mermaid pictures, and pictures of women underwater. I think it may have a lot to do with my Moon in Pisces square Neptune in the 4th house. I am interested in the type of art people are drawn to astrologically. I wish I could draw and paint myself. I haven't been blessed with that talent. Enjoy the drawings and I will be back soon with some posts, and there are a lot of Scorpio queries this month.

Air Signs: Rational Vs Emotional

Air signs

The signs expressing the element of air are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Mutable Gemini is constantly on the move making connections, and distributing information. Cardinal Libra directs their intelligence towards strategic relationships, diplomatically bridging opposites and smoothing out conflicts, using logical arguments. Fixed Aquarius rules social ideas and they connect groups of people together. Using Jungian astrology the air signs are the ‘thinking type’ and focus on intellectual understanding. The difficulty represented with the air signs is integrating the emotional side of life.

The air signs are said to favour rationality and reason and can be described in older textbooks books as detached, and interested in the world of ideas. Gemini is represented by the Twins; Libra is represented by the scales, and Aquarius by the water bearer. These are human forms/objects and represent the distinction between man and his bestial nature. Man has the gift of developing a civilised nature. With the use of air we can ‘talk things through’ seek ‘counselling’ and see things from a detached perspective. We can gain objectivity in any situation. If we are feeling stressed we often seek some fresh air outside and go for long walks to clear our heads.

The air signs have high principles, a sense of fairness and are fairly famous for being the less emotionally committed of the zodiac. Gemini hates to be pinned down to relationships; Libra is struggling with indecision and attempting the fine art of balancing self with other. Aquarius is known for his dislike of heavy emotional displays and detaching from personal issues and extending his hand towards universal concerns. Superman dealt with this issue and his love of human kind was constantly challenged by his individual love for Louis Lane, and it signifies the Aquarius-Leo dilemma of head vs. heart. These types can become the victim of their emotions and if the natal chart shows overall a high bias towards the element of air, sometimes the individuals emotions have a tendency to ’take over’ until he/she learns to become more conscious of his feeling nature.

Gemini Quotes

gemini twins sitting in a field with butterflys
Words are fascinating things for Gemini. Whether he's the more verbal type of Gemini who talks a blue streak or the quieter types (yes there are some) whose minds may be spinning with all kinds of things but who are too introverted to tell you about them., language is usually a wonderful and eternally stimulating game for him. I have met many Gemini's who are incurable pun-makers - a form of humour which seems peculiar to only a couple of signs, Pisces being the other - because they love play with language. Self expression through language is extremely important, and Gemini also loves to hear himself talk - not because he thinks he's so wonderful, but because he's fascinated with what words can do. Often he'll learn languages quickly, and word-plays amuse him where clumsier forms of humour leave him cold. By Liz Greene, Astrology for Lovers

The third sign of the zodiac is the first of the human signs (i.e., Castor and Pollux). It's the the first of the air signs, the realm of mental and social relationships. Often, as is the case with Castor and Pollux, there is a sibling relationship for the Gemini to deal with, and more often than not, it is one that challenges rather than supports the Gemini's position. Whether the duelling adversary is an actual twin or simply a sibling, or even associate, Gemini's abilities are exercised and stimulated, like Aries, by having a sparring partner. But as we have already observed, the sparring takes place mentally or intellectually for the Gemini, as opposed to the more physical or active challenge demanded by Aries. By Ariel Guttman and Kenneth Johnson, Mythic Astrology

Hermes is a catalyst; a messenger. He communicates information and brings people together. that's why in medical astrology Gemini rules the nervous system; it functions as a network to carry messages from the senses to the brain. In social situations, the Gemini archetype is also the catalyst. This involves two factors of course - positive and negative (dual). In the positive sense, Gemini friends are good at circulating your business card at social events. Give them a stack of cards to add t their gardener's, hairdresser's, caterer's, seamstresses. But, in the negative sense, beware of the gossip tendency. Remember that Hermes, in constant transit through the Three Worlds, talked with many gods, heroes and men. therefore, if you have Scorpio privacy tendencies yourself, don't entrust your deepest secrets to Herme's children. He doesn't always report the story accurately. Hermes likes to improvise, create and entertain. By Kathleen Burt, Archetypes of the Zodiac

Your also very good with your hands. You use them when you speak and have excellent eye-to-hand coordination. It can even be said that your hands have a mind of their own. As a child of Mercury, you have a way of putting things and will practice getting the best spin. Hence your love of a good debate. You revel in argument for arguments sake. A battle of wits allows you to practice your verbal jousts and parries. Wordplay is one of you favourite forms of recreation, and you'll say just about anything if it's a good line. Because you tend to treat conversations like a game, you can be genuinely bewildered if someone takes offence. By Christopher Renstorn, Ruling Planets

Having a mutable sign, the Gemini is known for versatility. He often supports himself through two jobs and is best suited to work that is never sedentary and which allows abundant room for creativity. Gemini's make excellent graphic artists (line is ruled by Gemini, color by Libra); musicians (melody is the mercurial provides, harmony belongs to the balance of the Scales); agents of all kinds; professional traveler; writers, translators, lecturers; and teachers. As we have said, Gemini is a sign of relationships. Friends and associates are important to him, for they provide him with the changes in circumstances which he likes so much. He also likes to exchange opinions, and when this is carried too far he can be quite a vehement orator. In addition to the strength of his tongue, Gemini is also known for looseness of tongue. A Gemini can be quite a gossip. By Alan Oken, Complete Astrology

Fro Gemini, information can be a way of preserving independence and maintaining detachment. It is a healthy defence. Gemini needs to be in touch. The more one knows about the world, the less likely one is to be trapped in an emotional quagmire. I know many Gemini's, and people with Moon or ascendant in Gemini, who simply must watch the news on television every night, or must have a newspaper to read in the morning. Gossip can provide the same satisfaction to some Geminians. If one isn't in touch with everything that's going on, one might sink down into a terrible swamp. One's mind can longer provide an escape route from difficult emotions. Liz Greene, Barriers and Boundaries

Gemini's Dark Twin

I am getting quite addicted to answering search engine questions, and the greater public have become my source of inspiration. I feel like a fisherman pooling through my queries. I had a question about “Why Gemini are the abusers of the Zodiac” and I wondered why this question concerned Gemini. The more I thought on it, the connection may have something to do with the good and evil twin.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and the strange case of the split personality. I will have to discuss the dark twin in relation to Gemini as it's the only link for the question I can find. All double sign personalities are centered upon the light and dark aspects of the personality/dual experiences/two natures, the other double bodied signs are Sagittarius and Pisces. The duality of human nature with both good and evil existing in us all is the main point of stories like Jekyll and Hyde. And if we can't accept our darker side it is often projected outside, or we try to hide our repressed side, it's the part of us we don‘t want others to see...

The best movie I can think of which archetypes Gemini is: The Man in the Iron Mask. The evil Twin hides his brother in a dungeon and keeps his face hidden behind a mask, the twin is trapped in a state of darkness, unable to see the light and achieve consciousness. Therefore one twin is unable to express himself, and the weight of the iron mask represents his own mortality, heaviness and bitter cynicism. The other twin lives his life as a King and has a godlike divine existence. The king does many crafty things throughout the film. For example, to win the woman he wants to marry, he doesn’t get rid of her partner personally, he sneakily sends him off to war, knowing he would be killed. The devious mind of the king are revealed and he is unmasked. The twins exchange places, and one lives in darkness and the other in the light. The two are never together in one place and this is part of the myth of Caster and Pollux, the mortal and divine twin.

I don’t have a deep understanding of myth but movies can connect us to our own astrological myths and dilemmas. The twins represent the stark opposite nature of dark and light. One twin seeks to destroy the other and they live out opposing sides. Sibling rivalry comes from many of the twin myths with one brother attempting to kill/repress the other. However, both need to be brought into consciousness and somehow integrated into the personality. Gemini hates to be trapped by the weight of his own mortality. The duality and dark/mortal side of Gemini has to do with the fact that this is a double sign. The shadow side pertains to all human beings, and we all have our own dark/repressed natures. The hidden self is locked away but desperately wants consciousness.

Freedom Fighter: Mars in Aquarius

Mars is active in Aquarian principles, and this position describes a strong opinionated nature with enthusiasm for intellectual debate, or even a strong desire to be a leader fighting for social reform. Wherever Mars is placed in our chart is 'where' we are active and push ahead, and it is here we affirm our identity (Sun). Mars can use brute force and can often be downright thoughtless towards others and is easily provoked. However, Mars also aids us in times of crisis, and especially when fast action is needed. An Aquarian Mars fights battles on behalf of groups, acquaintances and social causes. As an air sign Mars has a brain and a social conscious and is fuelled by ideological principles. Mars in Aquarius motivates the group and is instinctively good at team work, they know how to get things organized, planned and inspire others with their sense of vision. One of the greatest tasks for Mars in Aquarius is seeing himself as a separate individual, apart from the crowd and group. Mars in astrology also represents the tools we work with. Aqaurian tools are: computers, electrical knowledge, astrology, and information technology.
