Venus-Pluto Transits

Pluto-Venus transits involve not only relationships with others, but also one’s inner feelings of self-worth and happiness. In terms of relationship issues, the individual has difficulties in expressing love in a balanced way, and overwhelming passions and power-struggles will test the strength of the union. The feeling of rejection may be felt more acutely, and a partner may express jealousy and possessiveness, or, we are easily aroused into threatening behaviour which may destroy the relationship. The twin monsters of Jealousy and possessiveness spring from their co-rulers Taurus (Venus) and Scorpio (Pluto), and are the result of overwhelming feelings of insecurity and threat, so emotions get out of control, and love and affection is fixed.

An interesting book to read about dangerous obsessions, is David M. Buss’s book, tilted: The Dangerous Passion: Why Jealousy is As Necessary As Love and Sex. The author is astrologically biased, and has Sun conjunct Venus in Aries trine Pluto in Leo (tight)…or, perhaps he really understands the psychology of jealousy and possessiveness, and wants to further his understanding of its roots. The book mainly focused upon mate-guarding and the different manipulative strategies used to protect a partner from straying. Venus, the planet of relationships is heavily aspected in his natal chart. As a professor at University his research includes mating strategies, the emotions of jealousy, homicide and stalking.

A Pluto transit to Venus may potentially undermine a relationship and threaten its security, and one of the partner’s may express unexpressed feelings of resentment towards the other. Either individual may experience some kind of trauma or crisis in their personal life. New and existing relationships undergo crisis and change and there is often a fated quality to all personal interactions during this transit. Pluto forces us to find our own inner values and resources, and to radically transform the way we relate.

Emotional, psychological and complex issues surface such as abuse, physical disturbances and emotional game playing. In some cases, the relationship is ends, and with Pluto there is always a sense of finality when a relationships reaches such a climax. Sometimes Pluto-Venus transits represent the actual death of the partner. This may in a literal sense or in a figurative one, but when a relationship needs to change something has to die. For example, we may discover our partner has cheated on us, and manipulated us, so we lose our naivety and trust, and we have to find more honest ways of relating, so when Pluto transits Venus, something has got to give.

A powerful love affair could occupy our thoughts for this entire period, but there is a chance that it might end in hurt and betrayal. We may be left with feelings of both love and hate, which is extremely painful. How can we love someone we hate? How can we hate someone we love? The sexual life also undergoes a period of transformation and intense sexual and erotic experiences, and we may be involved in a socially taboo relationship. Provocative works of art, music, and beauty may all stir the senses, but Venus is also linked to money and wealth and this area may be blocked form further growth, and creates immense inner tension. Furthermore, the end of a partnership often presents us with challenges, on a material levels (Taurus) and emotional ones (Scorpio).
