The Astrology of Cats

I have been looking through astrology text-books to find out what planet and sign rules cats. I adore them, but the only reference made to cats in astrology books are stereotypes about Virgo spinsters living alone. I do have Saturn rising in Virgo, and I know the 6th house is related to pets. Kevin Burk says that one of the symbols for Cancer is the cat. I remember Sue Tompkins mentioning in her book that the dog was possibly related to Pluto. Basically, her reasoning behind this was that it defecated a lot. I can't even use the real word on my blog. I am ashamed to use it in public. The planet is named after a famous Disney dog. This article on Virgo also confirms that we do like cats. I have Sun in Pisces with Virgo rising.

Virgos like cats, birds and small, helpless creatures. They also like truth, punctuality, economy, prudence and discreet selectivity. They hate gushy sentiment, dirt, vulgarity, slop-piness and idleness. Theirs is a practical nature, with excessive discrimination-the true individualists, whose keen perception keeps their desires clear of muddy, wishful thinking. .

I even looked up Kathryn Morris’ chart, she plays detective Lillian Rush in Cold Case. In the series she has two cats at home, one has one eye, and the other has three legs. Lilly cuddles up with them each night. Many actors and actresses often match up astrologically to the characters they play. Kathryn has Sun and Mercury in Aquarius and she portrays an independent woman on screen, and she is often too involved in her “social work” cases to fully commit to a partner. Venus in Pisces is opposite Pluto in Virgo, and she also has Mars conjunct Neptune in Scorpio. The latter aspect is intriguing, if you think about John Lennon’s Mars-Neptune conjunction in Libra and his whole crusade for peace (Libra). Lilly’s crusade is working on unsolved murders (Scorpio) and Plutonians make great detectives. I enjoy watching Cold Case, and it's another favourite of mine, and it’s never over until the song is played at the end.

Anyway, let’s get back to the cats. T.S Eliot loved cats and has written a whole book of poems about them. However, his chart has no Virgo, but does have a Sun trine Neptune aspect. This case is unsolved. I know Neptunians can be animal lovers, but astrology needs to be more specific. Storms off in a huff…meow
