Tina Turner began her career as a member of Ike Turner Revue. Allegations of abuse surfaced after the split with Ike. Tina raised four son's with her husband, but she reported being isolated and abused during their marriage together. The cost of maintaining Ike's cocaine habit and his serious infidelities took their toll on her over the years. Tina Turner stayed in this abusive relationship with Ike for 16 long years. After one brutal beating she finally left him in the dust. I will take a look back in time, and see what was happening astrologically for that particular year, which reflected the moment was ripe to break free of Ike.
“Sometimes you’ve got to let everything go – purge yourself,” says Tina Turner. “If you are unhappy with anything . . . whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.”
Transits that Triggered the Event
Transiting Jupiter in Taurus in the 10th house conjuncts natal Uranus. Both planets need freedom and both crave to be free from restraints. New (Uranus) possibilities (Jupiter) are wide open for Tina, and the transit holds a lot of excitement for the future. Anytime Jupiter and Uranus meet, it signals both growth (Jupiter) and progression (Uranus) and often represents a powerful sense of moving forward. The conjunction placed in Taurus indicates new values, self-esteem and self-worth are open to be explored. Uranus in astrology rules innovation and change; whereas Jupiter rules expansion and possibilities. A generous helping of a rebellious spirit entered her psyche. This prevailing optimistic attitude about the future, encouraged her to discover unlived possibilities.
Another important trigger in her chart is transiting Saturn in Leo conjunct Pluto in the 12th house. An aspect that Tina has natally (Saturn square Pluto). The two heavyweights fight it out, and in the most extreme circumstances it can lead to obsessive-control, domination and misuse of power. This is when her most severe beating occurred. Transiting Saturn moving through the 12th house is a time of clearing old baggage. Planets in the 12th house according to psychological astrology operate on a hidden level, are unlived and often unexpressed. The 12th house shows what is passed down through the family.
According to Tracy Marks in Your Secret Self (Pluto in 12th House)
"Sexual urges, passions and resentments and hatred from the past may all fester within you, threatening to overcome self control and overwhelm consciousness. Because of the accumulated emotional charge of such energies and their threat to sense of self, you may not be able to discover the constructive power source, the aliveness, the regenerative and healing capabilities, and the inner strength which they can provide you once acknowledged, worked through and integrated. Sometimes, a 12th house Pluto indicates a history of physical or emotional abuse. Unable to assert your power, you developed behavior patterns which expressed your powerlessness"
Extra Notes : I noticed prior to the break up, Neptune passing over that Sun-Mercury conjunction in the 4th house/square Mars/opposite Moon. This would have been a time that she was in her most self-deluding and confusing phase of her life. Under harsh Neptune transits we can have difficulty seeing through the fog and find it hard to clear our mental and emotional state.
